Celebrating International Women’s Day - Women & Whisky

The whisky industry is changing, with many talented women now leading the way in different roles and creating the finest spirits to share to the world. Here are some of their stories. 
Rachel_Barrie
Rachel Barrie has over 30 years of experience working in the whisky industry. She was the first woman in Scotch Whisky to be officially given the role of Master Blender when she worked at Glenmorangie. Rachel moved to Brown-Forman in 2017, and remains there today, discovering phenomenal casks and creating new expressions for whisky lovers around the world to enjoy. 


Stephanie Macleod, Director of Blending, Scotch Whisky for Bacardi, has been awarded the prestigious title of Master Blender of the Year by the International Whisky Competition (IWC) 2023. Stephanie made history in 2019 as the first woman to win the award and has home on to win for an unprecedented fifth year in a row since then. In the tasting categories, the Bacardi portfolio won an impressive 22 awards. Stephanie and her team continue to gain recognition for their consistent approach to crafting quality, exceptional tasting whiskies.


Gillian Macdonald is head of whisky analytics and whisky creation at The Glenmorangie Company where she has worked since 2012. Her role focuses on the sensory aspects of the whole process of creating a whisky from start to finish with the analytical analysis as needed, to ensure that only the best and the highest quality whisky is released.
