Port Askaig is a range of Islay single malt whiskies that embodies the unique spirit of Islay and its people. Nestled into the north coast of the island, Port Askaig has been the gateway to Islay for hundreds of years. It seemed right to name our whisky after this magical place. While there is no distillery at Port Askaig, it gives us the opportunity to specially select casks from the distilleries around Islay and create a variety of expressions.
Port Askaig 19 Year Old has been aged in refill American oak in very small batches. This cask-strength whisky is a flinty, coastal style of Islay whisky which lends itself best to hip flasks and long walks along rugged coastlines.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Crisp and maritime, with a combination of seaside bonfires and muddy peat. Sour lemons and bitter oranges provide a counterpoint, with sweet sponge-cake batter, floral notes and ground spice giving balance
Palate: Syrupy and sweet to start, with savoury smoke rolling in soon after – ashy and earthy, with touches of barrel-char sweetness and charcoal dryness. Floral, spicy and sweet notes develop, with cardamom and clove joined by Sherbet Fountains, candied lemons and a hint of violets
Finish: Long and lingering, with earthiness giving way to tropical fruit and citrusy sap
