This single malt was distilled at Bowmore distillery in 2003 and aged for more than 17 years in a single barrel, yielding a total of 209 bottles. Mellow Islay peat smoke, succulent fruits and maritime intensity make for a deliciously characterful dram.
Nose: A salty walk on the beach on an autumn day: sea breezes mingling with plumes of peat smoke from a nearby chimney. Fresh prawns, with Marie Rose sauce, are served for supper, followed by a dessert of pineapple-andmango purée, with a touch of toffee sauce.
Palate: Stewed apples and pears appear alongside a vase of freshly-cut flowers. Himalayan salt flakes and intense smoke from a coal fire bring a flinty, coastal edge.
Finish: Long and briny, with burnt, caramelised apple crumble.
